How to look taller

We all want to look as tall as we can, but sometimes we always feel if we're not physically tall, there is no other way but to weep in one corner, or take pills hoping it would work. But celebrities have shown us that there is always a way or two to fake your height. Here are some tips.

Nicole Richie
OTK(over-the-knee) boots
Remember it's fall/winter, so having a pair of OTK boots isn't a sin. Most of the time it would be best if it were heeled, and if the heels were shaped uniquely, even better. Nicole Richie is a very small and petite person, however not only the extra height of the heels give her a boost, but also the length of the boot gives her an illusion of a longer leg. The best part of these boots are that all you need is fitted jeans to tuck inside, and the rest is completely up to you.

Ashley Tisdale
Flat soled boots
When you have boots which are not heeled, and not up to your knee, show more leg to create a false impression of a long leg. Go for light clothing, and bright colors to finish the look, and please make sure you lotion your legs so you won't get embarrassed when people stare at your long legs.

Rachel Bilson
Wide trousers/jeans
Extremely comfortable and useful to lengthen your legs. Rachel Bilson is one of the most petite people in Hollywood, and she smartly creates a beautiful illusion with her favorite type of pants, paired with high heels. My brand pick for these types of jeans are obviously Miss Sixty, just because it's sort of famous for its wide jeans. Tops to complete the look would be something fun and cute, like the blouse Rachel is wearing. Also since its still fall, wear a plaided button up shirt and tuck it in and pair it with your most comfortable heels.

LOOK: hot night out

Rihanna
Kristin Cavallari
Audrina Patridge
Taylor Momsen
Olivia Palermo

Imagine the situation when you get a call from your girlfriends for a night out, and you're trying to stay cool and collected for the rest of the day, even though when we all know you're thinking of the perfect outfit to outwit your friends. There are several ways to interpret and tackle this situation (you don't want to look too over the top as well), but you have to understand that this is an occasion, and you should step up your game and take a little more risks! As we all know the trend now is "lingerie is the new outerwear"(look at audrina patridge), so be confident and take advantage of that!

Core pieces
-leather skirts/shorts
-sparkly blouse/tank top
-black shorts
-distressed jeans/leggings
-leather leggings
Tip: Stay clear of light blue jeans, its best for the day. Splash a little bit of bright or neon colors around your outfit to keep it fun. Also try a low top to boost your confidence level.

Extras
-leather blazer
-leather jacket
-faux fur vest
-big and chunky belts
Tip: This is basically to ensure your whole look is fun and maintained. Its the part where you get to experiment your new trendy splurges, and show off your personal style (look at Olivia Palermo's "Blair Waldorf" style)

Shoes
-high heeled ankle boots
-high heeled pumps
Tip: The higher the heel, the better.

Accessory
-stack of bangles
-a cute headband
-statement necklace
-clutch bag
Tip: Stay clear of your everyday bag. Make sure your look is more than simple after adding loads and loads of accessories.

MODEL Chanel Iman

Born in Atlanta, raised in Los Angeles, Chanel Iman is a multiracial mix. Her father is african-american and her mother is half-korean. She was also renamed after her mother's favourite designer Chanel, and often found in Chanel boutiques in between breaks of fashion shows especially in Paris. In 2006, she took part and won third place in Ford Model's Supermodel of the world, and ended up signing with the agency. Chanel walked for high-end brands such as DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Hermes, Valentino, and even appeared in Victoria Secret Pink and GAP campaigns. She was recently crowned as the new Victoria Secret Angel in which she would join models like Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr, Adriana Lima and much more with their huge wings down the Victoria Secret runway. She is a perfect example for all of us who has set goals for ourselves, because she had admitted that she has reached most of her goals in modeling.

Hair color: Dark Brown
Eye color: Brown
Weight: 50 kg (110 Ibs)

Marc Jacobs -Fall 2009

At the age of sixteen, Marc Jacobs met designer Perry Ellis while working as a stock boy at the Upper West Side boutique Charivari, who encouraged him to apply to Parsons the New School for Design and mentored him while he was a student. Eight years later, Marc Jacobs produced his first grudge collection for the Perry Ellis label. Today Marc Jacobs is one of the most well-known and closely watched designers in the world, helming his own signature label, a diffusion line, and the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

Marc Jacobs Ready-To-Wear Collection

This fall, Marc Jacobs still inherited the grudge look but collaborated it with rock glam. The entire collection was unique in its own way, and each garment was dramatically made, making it punk-ish. As we all know, fall is the most important season in fashion, and Marc Jacobs totally made use of that fact.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Ready-To-Wear Collection

We all know the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was meant for teenagers, thus the fun colors, cutting and texture of the fabric. I had always liked the idea of socks tucked in boots the way Marc Jacobs does them, and I chose this look from the entire collection just because it is basically what all teenagers need this fall. Blazers, trousers, scarfs, boots, brightly colored socks are not only a trend, but literally the classic of the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection.

How to be a model

Gemma Ward
Jessica Stam
Karlie Kloss

Many of us had dreamed of becoming a fashion model, posing for major fashion photo shoots or walking down the runway in the most amazing and high fashion clothing. However, most of the time we don't have an adult figure, or someone who knows it all to tell us if we have a shot, and sometimes leading us to embarrassment in the modeling agency. I have found an amazing source which tells us exactly what agencies are looking for in a potential model.

Be Realistic
Very few people can be models. Like many other professions, modeling has stringent criteria and exceptions are rarely made. The most important factor is height; The industry standard is five feet nine inches to five feet eleven inches.

See if you have what it takes
Contact an agency and send snapshots of yourself. Include your stats-height, age, hair and eye color, and bust, hip, and waist measurements-and your phone number. Pictures should be taken with natural hair and no makeup and against a white wall.

If you live near a major city, contact individual agencies to see if they have open calls
This is time set aside for consultations with aspiring models. Go to open calls armed with your snapshots. If you don't live close to a modeling hub, call an agency in a large city like New York, Los Angeles, or Miami and ask if they work with agencies in your area.

Be wary of scams
An agency that believes in you will often advance you money while working to build your portfolio. Once you begin working, you pay the agency back for its expenditures. If you're asked to pay an agency money up front for the promise of finding you work, keep searching.

Modeling is not the right path for everyone
There are many other career choices in the modeling industry. Agents, casting directors, and model scouts are all necessary and valuable contributors to the business of modeling.

LOOK: comfy casual

Megan Fox
Selena Gomez
Vanessa Hudgens
Dakota Fanning
Lauren Conrad
Emma Watson

We all have those last 5 minutes in the closet, staring at the mirror and unsure whether our outfit is good enough for the occasion, even though it was probably a day out with your closest friends. Here is a check list to make sure you still look great but appropriate for that casual day out.

Basics
- V-neck loose shirt
- cute blouse
- loose tank top
- skinny jeans
- black leggings
Tip: These items would help you look not too over the top, and tone down the entire outfit. Try to avoid t-shirts with big cartoons or pictures splattered all over, especially those t-shirts with the brand name printed on top which is so huge it make people walking past you dizzy (example: armani exchange shirts). Those are mostly considered tacky and it would make you seem like you are insecure (but of course nobody's stopping you).

Extras
- leather jacket
- boyfriend blazer
- fitted blazer
- white oversized men's button-on shirt
- fedora hat
- beanie
Tip: without these items, your entire ensemble would not look as good. I would say these items would make or break your look so its best to choose the color and the cut and what fits your outfit perfectly wisely.

Shoes
- ankle boots
- knee high boots
- wedged heels
- ballet flats
- gladiator sandals
Tip: you'll have to oomph the whole look with awesome shoes, but also feel comfortable in them.

Accessory
- your everyday bag
- a cute necklace
- aviator sunglasses
- wayfarers
Tip: Finish your ensemble with accessories that ensure everything looks You.

THE CITY - If you want something done right

This episode of The City seemed more beneficial to most of us than the previous episode which focused on boys. This time we saw Whitney struggling in promoting her new clothing line, Roxy as the barrier to making things better than what it could've been, Olivia running around to get clothes for the Today Show segment, and Erin getting pissed and upset with her- again. I enjoyed watching how a photo shoot for a look book was actually like, and how much better than Olivia we could've done in just picking out outfits that were more than enough for Erin to be pleased. I was not surprised that Roxy offered suggestions once again, and i know from this episode we have learnt that:

-never get carried away in photo shoots
-never offer ridiculous suggestions to your boss at a photo shoot
-never feel satisfied with your job when your boss isn't happy with you
-never suggest your boss to have an open mind
-never keep quiet to your co worker when both of you are pulling out outfits

Holiday Gift ideas

This holiday, its definitely about giving not receiving, and as much as "its the thought that counts", there is always that point when you sit down and think about what suitable gift to give. Here are some ideas that i think could be appropriate for the following budgets.

For Her
Swarovski Brooches - US$80
swarovski.com

If you have a higher budget, this gift is definitely enough to mesmerize them. Crystals, diamonds and all sparkly things are every girl's best friend, and understanding that would already score you points!
Scented candle - US$30
beautyexclusive.com

An alternative to perfumes are scented candles. It smells good, gives a great calming feeling which is highly demanded during this season holiday. Not too expensive, but it seemed like the perfect christmas gift already!
Statement necklace - US$8
charlotterusse.com

Cheap and beautiful, statement necklaces would be another great gift. Being one of falls hottest trend, you can take advantage and spend just enough to impress them!

For Him

iPig iPod speaker - US$90
speakal.com

Super cute and adorable, this gift would definitely please. It also comes in several colors, and many different animals too. With a bigger budget, getting this would be totally worth it.
David Beckham Signature - US$55
amazon.com

Thinking of a gift for a guy is never easy, but we always end up in the perfume section in the department stores. The second question then would be, what perfume? Sniffing each perfume in the shelves would be ridiculous, but trust me David Beckham's Signature perfume is really good. Just enough for your tight budget as well!

Dog tags - US$30
website unavailable

Dogs are man's best friend, but did you know that they like dog merchandise too? I would never understand why they liked dog tags, but its still a great gift considering the budget. Next thing you know they'll be eating dog food!

Chanel -Fall 2009

Since Coco Chanel's death in 1971, came Karl Lagerfeld in 1983, a headstrong German native. At Chanel, the designer rapidly revitalize the French brand, restoring it to the vitality of its glory years, he also launched it in to the twenty-first century by reinventing its signature motifs. Until today, Chanel has repeatedly dominated the fashion world and wowed runway shows.

Ready-To-Wear collection

This fall, Karl Lagerfeld mixed classy and modern in this look, and the collection. It was difficult for me to choose one look from the entire collection, just because every garment was so beautifully made. Even though this outfit is full-on black, it is totally modern and shows how a stylish woman would dress herself before she goes out for a walk in a park perhaps. 100 percent Chanel.

Couture collection

This beautiful garment was probably a better interpretation of another Coco Chanel dress worn by Jessica Alba a few years ago. The texture and the detailing of this dress is so unique, that it proved to me yet again how the legendary Karl Lagerfeld works with fabric.

The Teen Vogue Handbook

It took me months to get a hold of this book, but totally worth buying. This book is literally the guide to the fashion industry, and i think that people who want to succeed in fashion should read this book. The book contain tips on different career paths in fashion, also showing us how many of the successful people in fashion climbed to the top, including Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel Iman, Bruce Weber and many more. My most favourite part is whenever they show us a schedule of each of their daily work, exactly what they do from waking up, to getting in to bed. Also this book includes the stuff you'd need for any job in fashion! Thank god this book came about now than never!

80's makeup

Teen Vogue magazine had recently did an article on the 80's makeup, mainly because it never grows old. Of course, these pictures shows the runway interpretation of the 80's, however when toned down, it can be worn for everyday purposes. Also, it can be worn during night time, or at a party. Heres a list of makeup brands that would work to get the perfectly dramatic look.

THE CITY - Friends and Foe Workers

After watching this episode of The City, I think it would be great to emphasize on how important this show would be as an encyclopedia for those who want to channel their career path towards the fashion industry. Both Whitney and Olivia are involved in fashion, but one is in Public Relations/Designer, and the other is an Accessory Director at Elle magazine. In this episode, all of the girls get to go to Miami Fashion week, where they were given important tasks. Whitney and Roxy were suppose to help out in a fashion show, and Olivia was supposed to check out on the season's accessories. However, this week none of the girls succeeded, except for Erin whose job was to host the Elle afterparty. Here is a list of things I had learn from this episode:

-never forget your pen and paper during a meeting (Roxy)
-never work with your friends in the same company (Roxy and Whitney)
-never sabotage your co-worker (Erin)
-never fight when you are at the backstage of a fashion show (Roxy and Whitney)
-never not go to the trade shows (Olivia)
-never not listen to your boss (Erin)
-never order room service when you are on a business trip (Roxy)
-never comment on your boss when she is still in the room (Roxy)

Whitney Port

I adore Whitney Port ever since she was first introduced in 'The Hills' when she was working with Lauren Conrad as an intern at Teen Vogue magazine. Her face was just so bright and cheerful, and she always looked fresh and happy. This californian beauty had just took to her blog to share with us how she keep her fresh look especially on set of 'The City'. So here's Whitney.

Hi my loves,
I have noticed that a lot of you have been wondering how i do my makeup. I am not a big fan of heavy makeup so the majority of the time I do my own. I stick to the basics of face powder, bronzer and blush. Over the years i have learned how to do my own makeup because we don't have a makeup artist for the show. Here is a little look at my daily routine.

I start by mixing Fresh High Noon tinted moisturizer with the Fresh Soy Face Cream to get a nice base with a little sunkissed glow.
Then I Dust Bare Minerals Powder with SPF 15 to even out my skin.
Next I bronze with Guerlain Number One for Blondes on my cheeks, hairline and jawline.
Then I brush a little bit of NARS Orgasm Blush on my cheekbones, a little on my forehead, nose, and chin to keep it constant
I use Anastasia brow get to give my eyebrows a nice shape (this is especially helpful if i haven't had time to go in to get them done.)
I highlight under my eyebrows with Benefit Eye Bright and then curl my lashes with a Sephora eyelash curler.
Sometimes if I'm really feeling like going all out for the day I put on Maybelline mascara

This look is really easy to transition from day to night. I reapply the basics and use the Stila Smudge pot with a slanted brush to put eyeliner on.
For my lips i love the Fresh Sugar Lip Stain with SPF in it.

Seems like a lot of steps but it really only takes 5 minutes!

Love her!
